Default CPU overheating?

This information is outdated. Do not use.
If you need assistance please start a new thread.

Here is my system specs

CPU: 3200+ Venice 2.45Ghz
RAM:Mushkin Redline pc4000
GPU: ASUS x800xl with newest catlyst
Danger Den water cooling on CPU and GPU

When I start guild wars after about 30 seconds it brings up an error box saying my processor is overheating. When I check my processor it is running at 34c. So basicly it's saying it's overheating when it's not......
Now I have overclocked my system but it is stable in all stress tests that I have done. When I lower my CPU from 2.45 to 2.4 it runs fine. Except I notice that sometimes there will be no text in any of the text boxes sometimes. Like for my skills or anything like that. Anyone else having anything like this?

Nah. What kind of box is that? A windows box? I would not thrust windows and would DEFINITELY check with a good anti-virus. Also, firewall and spybot-remover are mandatory. I wouldn't EVER trust any pc that doesn't have those.
It could also be some weird thing with the MB: those errors are NMI alarm lines on the board, if somethings weird with that...it might cause error popups. Weird if it happens with GW only.

GREAT Freeware anti-virus: AVAST.
GREAT Freeware firewall: Sygate Personal Firewall.
Freeware spyware-remover: spybot S&D.

Good luck!

you have a water cooled system and are running 34c? that means you are running at about 93-94 degrees fahrenheit(for us americans)....that's WAY too high for a watercooled system....you should be in the teens. My aircooled box runs 28celsius under full load...check the thermal paste on the processor(when was the last time you used some)....also check the leads on the mobo/cpu sensors...they may be reading incorrectly.

Questions to answer:

What thermal compound did you use
What Voltage is the CPU Running
What FSB is the CPU Running.
When was the last time you did a BIOS Flash?

my cpu runs around 34C, no problems whatsoever. i use fan cooling instead of water cooling. my cpu is at 3ghz p4 northwood. may be there is some issue with your MB when overclocking it.

Well I don't have an antivirus and never have for the past five years and have never had a virus. My ISP blocks them or something. I use WinXP. I use adaware and spybot almost bi-daily. And I actually use a hardware firewall that came with my mobo.
It is an AMD chip so it tends to run quite a bit hotter than a p4 espcially as it is 64bit. I've been told that it's not abnormal to have a Venice core run up to 51c-53c at times on air. Sitting idle my chip is at 23c. Mind you these are the core temps and not the ambient temps.
I used artic5 on my chip with a fairly thin layer. The last layer was so thin that it looked like a dry lake bed 3 days after application. All cracked and dry looking. I put it on about a week ago (the new layer). my CPU is running at 1.55v. My FSB is running at 245 x10 multiplier and I have never flashed the BIOS. It's a new system, only two weeks old.

p4's notoriously run hot, especialy prescott.. anyways it sounds more likely that your system is unstable from the overclocking, possibly the memory fsb (245).

google for prime95 and memtest. run prime95 in a loop to determine if your cpu is stable, and use memtest to determine if your memory is stable at that frequency.

to experiment.. go back to default clock settings and see if GW runs like it should.

my 3000+ MAD64 runs about 30C on air cooling....

just because its a new computer doesn't mean the BIOS isn't old.

So the BIOS could be the problem then? Should I flash it? I know there are updated BIOS revisions out there for DFI ultraD's.

well see...I don't think your processor is actually overheating...the temps you are posting just don't seem right. You don't have a heavy OC(even though you don't have an OC Mobo)...and your voltages aren't all that high. PLUS you are watercooled...I think your sensors are reporting the wrong temps. If this has been a problem with other people a BIOS flash would fix this....See if there is a newer version of the BIOS than the one you are running.

if not...try clocking everything back to normal and checking the temps under full load...then checking them while GW is running....

i thought the amd 64 cpu's had an auto shutdown in them if they got to hot.

Srz. I dont know why OC then ?? I u get this message put it to normal status and paly.

Even my amd 2200+ works great with ati9200se, back 2 years with the E3demo.
Dont know whay u need to oc for this game parti. no need. Are u paying HDTV like ??

Normaly all Athlon have, depends form Board to Board. But normaly yes all have this Shutdown Feature.

i don't know if it's because the house is so hot but my cpu is running from mid 40's to mid 50's, although when i open the case and touch the heatsink, it's hardly warm...maybe my uguru is reporting the wrong temps.

Problem number one located.

Uguru is reporting the right temps. It doesn't care about the heatsink's temperature; it's actually reporting how hot the processor die itself is. If your heatsink isn't hot, that means it isn't pulling that heat off your processor at any speed.

If you feel comfortable in the insides of a PC, you should replace the thermal compound. You can buy a tube of high-performance Silver Oxide thermal stuff at Best Buy for maybe $10. It's worth it.

i built this comp myself so i'll change the thermal paste, do you need special thermal paste for the graphics card? i wouldnt mind my 6800gt running a bit cooler.

Heh, my 2.8 hits about 57-60 during these hot summer days. (90F in here, no AC )

Anyway, as far as I know, you CAN put thermal paste on video cards, but I know they're also designed to endure higher heat. So what might be considered hot on your CPU might just be average on your GPU.

use Arctic Silver 5 for the GPU....The suspension fluid in AS5 is a proprietary mixture of advanced polysynthetic oils that actually mix together to fill in any gaps...the worst thing you want is a gap in the thermal compound you put on your GPU.

As far as temps go are you supposed to put a thin layer of paste on your CPU or a thick one? I put as thin a layer as I can get whithout the chip showing through, hat's what a freind told me. So now I am burning in my water cooled comp and the temp is at 31c 32c maybe. Is this still to hot and should I flash the BIOS? Also my water tubes are also always cold. I have artic silver 5 on my CPU. I think it transfers heat ok because one time I unplugged my water cooling and the system shut off and I couldnt figure why it was running at 51c but then I realized that i couldnt hear the bubbly noise from my resivior so then I plugged it back in. But anyway the water tubes were warm then but that was the only time.

WoW. I write like a 5th grader when I'm tired haha.

Yeah, you want it pretty thin, and mainly just over the die. Just read the directions on the AS website.

it doesn't really matter how much you put on the chip...as long as you can't see a visible space between the processor and the heatsink(i.e. the thermal compound isn't lifting the heatsink off the processor), you're good to go.
